Easter

Hiding bunnies
Hanging gold bunnies
Eggs full of what? Hmmm I wonder?

Working out clues
Who can find the next one?
Hatching a plan
Sweetness
Hot chocolate
Party planning
Too many chiefs
Balls and chickens
The bush that surpassed expectations
Country girl wellingtons
A chocolate cake for friends

We spent this morning at home doing some gardening and baking, we then had a little egg hunt of our own

After a lovely roast dinner we met some dear friends at Newark Park for their annual egg hunt. The sun was shining and the children were happy, what more could we ask for

I hope you are having a great Easter break too

Take care, Natalie x

Nature in the home - a series

My nature in the home contribution this week is the view just outside my kitchen window, our cottage is very old and the primroses grow all over the bank, more and more blossom every year. Happy Easter everyone, my boys and I made Easter biscuits this week using my nan's recipe. Have you ever used the Easter essence Cassia? It's smell brings back memories of my nan and the kitchen I grew up in

Pop on over to the lovely Lou's blog to see some other beautiful contributions

Lately

Hello all my lovely friends, I hope you are all well. I can't get over how cold it is, so cold. Our little family are not letting it get us down though, summer will be with us soon enough, for the mean time we are wrapping up and getting on with enjoying Easter half term

In my February to do list I mentioned I wanted to find a little part time job that some how fitted in with the boys, school and the holidays. Well I have, can you believe I am now a waitress! I am working four evenings a week, my feet are getting used to it, Barry is being amazing and really supportive by getting up in the night if one of the boys wakes up and he is having breakfast with them so I can have a slower morning, I appreciate this so much and the money is defiantly helping :) We can now plan a few trips away and do a little saving

A trip to the local park on Sunday was a great start to the holidays

J - You were so happy to dress up as slinky dog for your grandma's 60th party, you danced, played and ate party food all night.

A- You always have time for me even when your cousins are around. We snatched a few minutes together before you needed to go and dance with your grandma

Gratefulness

A few years ago I read a book about gratefulness, it talked about how, if you focus on things you are gratefullyfor it makes dealing with life's pressures and hardships much easier

I now most days think about what I am grateful for and I wanted to share with you today how I am feeling, I hope you can join in to and tell me what you are grateful for, the wonderful part is that it can be anything at all, from the smallest gesture of a stranger smiling as you cross in the street to your children helping you put the socks away

Today I am grateful for:

My brilliant little car and it's heated seats keeping me warm on my drive home from work at midnight

My ugg boots for meaning I can wear shoes as comfy as my slippers while cycling the boys to school

Too many oranges in the fruit bowl so I could make myself a fresh orange juice this morning

My body for being so amazing, it has allowed me to have both my beautiful and amazing boys, been strong when I was ill and everyday lets me do all the things I need to do

Here is hoping you all have a happy and grateful day

Take care, Natalie xx

Growing our own

I have been spending time with Asa's class at school digging, making drills, holes and planting out seeds and sets in their vegetable bed. We are very lucky to have a vegetable bed for each class and even the little kindergarten children have one too

So far we have planted out
Onion sets
Yellow and white carrots
Ruby red beets
Lettuce
Peas

Having grown our own veg at the cottage I feel confident in what to do but there are two new vegetables I want to try this year, tomatoes (I know not technically a fruit!) and potatoes

I have stumbled across a blog by Pete, he is Jamie Oliver's gardener and has some great advice and tips, go see

Two books which Barry and I always go back to are The complete book of self sufficiency by John Seymour  and Grow your own  veg by Carol Klein

My best tips with growing any vegetables are to just give it a go, don't worry if you don't do everything perfectly, plants are much tougher than you think and little & often, try to spend half an hour a few times a week weeding and watering your little beauties

Take care, Natalie xx

J - Our little man, only 3 but already such a big boy. You are so brave and clever. Look at you scooting with all the big boys

A - You fell and got straight back on your scooter after a cuddle from Mummy and Daddy. You make me want to do better everyday
