"A portrait of A & J, once a week, every week, in 2013."

Looking into their world

A - I love to look into his world. I spent well over an hour making his Lego helicopter for him after a whole week of working really hard at school

J - We still have lots of Christmas presents we have not opened yet, we opened the one from my sister this week, to say he loves it is an understatement

Cheese lolly pops - Recipe corner

As some of you know I spend my Tuesday afternoons at at sons school, I teach cooking and try to incorporate the terms theme, this term they are studying mini beasts! I cannot tell you how much joy this brings me every week working with the children, to see them gain more confidence around food makes me really happy

See below for the recipe - squashed fly lolly pops!

150g grated Parmesan cheese
1 tbsp poppy seeds
1 tbsp sesame seeds

You will need a baking tray with parchment paper. Take a round cookie cutter and sprinkle in a tea spoon full of your cheese mix, lift off gently and place your lolly pop stick (available in most cook shops) on top, sprinkle some more cheese on top of the stick to act like a glue. Repeat until your tray is full. Carefully put into your oven for 3 minutes or until golden on the edges. Take out and leave to cool, you can use either a pallet knife or normal table knife to peal the lollipop from the paper. Done!

Great for parties too!

Take care, Natalie xx

Unexpected times

After a morning spent cleaning while Asa and Jasper played with their favourite toy we needed to get out into the sunshine, after a wander we headed to our park to find the local football teams playing. I was ready to head home but the boys wanted to stay and play, queue muddy knees all round

Wild hair for me today, no time for a blow dry
I love this view and how it changes every season
Shadows and boys

Take our photo mumma
Mummy look, what is it? Mummy quick take a photo of it.

Caught in the act, I know he is going to tell me off for this one when he's older

Knowing Barry was at home making furniture I called him to come, how could I not! A pint of beer, 2 lemonades and 2 packets of crisps later we were all happy

Art with children

Some days there is a little time to go and enjoy art, it could be a sculpture trail, a children's art wall at Asa's school, the street art in the city or like today an exhibition at our local art centre. Jasper and I snatched a couple of hours together. He could not at first decide which was his favourite but decided on the piece named "first shoot" perfect. I fell for the painting called "The fox"

After a shared soup lunch we wandered with Quill our dog and found a lovely stream perfect for poo sticks and pretend fishing.

An afternoon to remember

"A portrait of my children, once a week, every week, in 2013."

A - My boy with a heart of gold, after forgetting his assembly this week I was in tears at the school pick up, he came over, gave me a hug and said "don't worry mumma, we all forget things"

J - My brave boy, after having his inoculations this week I was sure he would have a few tears, no, just stood up and said "can I have my chocolates now?"

J - The younger brother, always looking up to A for help or to see how things are done. Like his mumma though he knows his own mind and likes to do things his way too

A - Ever the patient older brother, he looks after J and teaches him. He is so much like his Daddy, he has the kindest heart

February

I love to do lists, I think it has allot to do with my love of a new note book. The look and feel of the covers, the clean blank pages ready for my notes, ideas, scribbles and ever lasting to do list

I have a new one, very old school.

For my little space here I want to put down a few things I would like to accomplish during the lovely month of February. I wonder how I will get on, I will let you know

What are your plans in February?

1. Make my sisters birthday present
2. Visit dear friends
3. Spend time with my parents in half term
4. Try and find a job which fits in with being a mumma, school and Barry, sigh
5. Celebrate Chinese new year on February 10th
6. Make February 14th a special evening for all our little family and make one of these and these and these, oh no too much Pinterest!!
7. Start using out National Trust membership
8. FINALLY get my hair cut and the boys too by the amazing Padge
9. Pancakes on shrove Tuesday
10. Help plant out the bulbs at Jasper's kindergarten
11. Make my first ever batch of marmalade
12. Find many beautiful snow drops
13. Discuss holidays with my Mum
14. Make many cakes and blog them all!!
15. Have dinner with friends

Wish me luck, I think I am going to need it

Take care, Natalie xx

Everyday is not a good day

We found a lovely sculpture trail near where we live today, most of the pieces were made by groups of people such as people in care homes, scout and guide groups, schools and nurseries. There were other children there climbing too, Asa and Jasper loved playing with them

Not everyday is a good and happy day. I am a bit down at the moment, I can't figure out why so I am just going with it and having a little cry when I need to. I am sure I will start to feel brighter soon

The sun was high and bright today, a biting wind though

Take care, Natalie xx
